Planning for cooling before the hot weather

January 20, 2017 by Outdoor Home Care

The time to consider how to keep your house cool in the summer is before it gets hot. If you and your family were uncomfortable during last summer’s hot, humid days, you may want to look at installing a heat pump in your home now.

A heat pump is a great alternative to installing an air conditioner because it also improves the efficiency of your heating. Heat pumps are designed to move heat rather than generating heat. They cool a room by moving heat from that room to warm another.

The process of moving heat cools a home for about a quarter of the cost of running a conventional air conditioner. That’s great for keeping cool when summer approaches, but if you install a heat pump now, this same process can save you 40 percent on your heating bill if you heat with electricity.

There are different types of heat pumps, including air source, ground source, high efficiency and geothermal, each designed to work differently in varying climates. You can find out which of these is right for you and how you can begin saving now on both your heating and cooling bill.
